HOUSTON, Texas—Texas Senator Royce West announced today that he has earned the endorsements of Congressman Al Green, Texas Senator Carol Alvarado, Texas Senator John Whitmore, Texas Rep. Alma Allen, Texas Rep. Harold Dutton, Texas Rep. Ron Reynolds, and Former Texas Court of Criminal Appeals Judge Morris Overstreet.
During a rally and press conference with the Texas Southern University Young Democrats, the Houston endorsers cited West’s long record of taking action and commitment to his constituents.
Green is currently serving is eighth term as a U.S. Congressman and sits on the powerful Financial Services Committee, and is the Chairman of the Oversight and Investigations subcommittee. Within the Democratic Party, he holds the position of Assistant Whip, and as a veteran advocate for civil rights, Green has fought for those in society whose voices are not heard.
“I am proud to endorse my longtime colleague and friend, State Senator Royce West, a lifelong Texan, for U.S. Senate,” said Green. “He has served 26 years in the Texas State Senate, he is more than qualified, and he will be ready to work on day one as a U.S. Senator on behalf of all Texans.”
Alvarado was elected in 2018 to serve as the Texas State Senator for District 6 in Harris County, and in 2008 she was elected to the Texas House of Representatives and served five terms. As the Chairwoman of the Urban Affiars Committee, Alvarado’s primary legislative focus has been on economic development, public health, and criminal justice reform.
“Senator West is a living legend who has displayed a lifetime of proven leadership and results in the arena of women’s rights, criminal justice reform, education, healthcare, and economic revitalization. He is battle tested and without question, the right man at the right time,” Alvarado said.
Today’s event is the third announcement in a series across the state to highlight endorsements from dozens of state leaders.
“I am humbled to have earned the support of all of these incredible trailblazers in Houston,” West said. “We are all fighting for the same thing—rejecting Trump’s dangerous and radical agenda and working for a future that benefits all of us.”
